"My pup has suffered from severe allergies and intolerances. She is also a picky eater. After intolerance/allergy testing her we discovered there were many foods and fillers she needed to avoid to make her healthy and happy again. Raw would be great but we couldn’t do that because it was too dangerous for a family member. I was so very thankful to find this option. First of all, it smells great and looks fresh! Our dog absolutely loves it…she rarely gets excited over food. I love that it’s not kibble. She gets yeast buildup from kibble and that was another type of food we needed to avoid. I was close to having to cook her food but for simplicity sake really wanted to find something shelf stable and easy for anyone to feed her. This checked all the boxes. Q&A

I buy Salmon Smack as a food topper and as a training treat for 2 standard poodles. It was most economical to purchase the big box size. Should this be frozen in zip bags to preserve freshness? Or will original bag and closed to the air be sufficient. I’m unsure how long it will keep fresh. They are really loving it as a treat and a bit if extra in their ACANA Pacifica/Ooen Farm ancient grain mixture.
Hi Julie, Unopened bags will have an 18 month shelf life, with a best before date stamped on every bag we produce. Once opened, Smack will generally stay fresh for up to 3 months if left in a cool dry place. We encourage keeping the Smack out of sunlight or direct sources of heat as that can cause the food to oxidize. If you know your pet won't eat all of the Smack within 3 months, you can absolutely freeze some to retain freshness further!

I have three dogs. The little one is about 12 lbs the next one is about 50 lbs and is very active. The last one is not as active and is about 130 lbs based on this how many bags a week would I go through. I have been feeding raw, however the prices are outrageous.
